Spain is home to approximately 3,640 active startups, with an estimated economic impact of €7.7 billion and more than 69,000 associated jobs.
Climate, connectivity, universities and access to the European market attract international founders. A strong lifestyle proposition, however, cannot replace customers, capital, talent and a reliable professional network.
Madrid and Barcelona are not the whole story
Valencia, Málaga, Alicante, Bilbao and other cities are developing business communities with their own identities. Technology connects with different sectors in each region, including tourism, logistics, energy, healthcare, construction and the creative industries.
Integration determines speed
A newly arrived founder needs to locate lawyers, tax advisers, developers, suppliers and potential customers quickly. When that network is difficult to discover, valuable time is lost and the cost of establishing a company increases.
International founders also create value
Foreign entrepreneurs bring experience, investment, commercial networks and access to additional markets. Spain can convert its residential appeal into an economic advantage by reducing administrative friction and connecting new founders with the local business community.
